Kerry Washington is an American actress, best known for playing the role of Olivia Pope in the ABC political drama series Scandal (2012–2018). She is also known for her roles in the films Ray, She Hate Me, The Last King of Scotland, and Django Unchained. Born Kerry Marisa Washington on January 31, 1977 in The Bronx, New York City, she is the only child of Valerie, a professor and educational consultant, and Earl Washington, a real estate broker. She is of Jamaican American (partly English and Scottish) on her mother’s side and African American descent on her father’s side. After graduating from Spence School in Manhattan in 1994, she attended George Washington University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1998 with a double major in anthropology and sociology. She also studied acting at Michael Howard Studios in New York City. In 2013, she married former NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, with whom she has a daughter, Isabelle Amarachi and a son, Caleb Kelechi.
