Turning professional in 1999, Melzer won the men’s doubles event at Wimbledon in 2010 and the US Open in 2011 with Philipp Petzschner, as well as the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon in 2011 with his then future (and later ex-) wife Iveta Benešová. Born on May 22, 1981 in Vienna, Austria, to parents Michaela and Rudolf Melzer, he has a younger brother, Gerald Melzer, with whom he has played doubles in several tournaments.
