Laura Harring is a Mexican-born American actress and model who became the first Latina woman crowned Miss USA in 1985, and at only 21 years of age. Harring began her acting career in television and film. She is best known for her dual roles as Rita and Camilla Rhodes in the 2001 postmodern neo-noir film Mulholland Drive, for which she received an Alma Award. She is also known for film roles in The Forbidden Dance, The Punisher, John Q, Willard, The King, and Love in the Time of Cholera.
Herring was born as Laura Elena Martínez Herring in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico to Raymond Herring and María Elena Cairo. She is of German-Austrian descent on her father’s side, and of Spanish-Mexican descent on her mother’s side. She has two sisters, Ana María Lima and Rita Harring. She traveled frequently as a child. She studied in Switzerland when she was 16 and worked as a social worker in India. She married politician Carl-Eduard von Bismarck in 1987, and divorced in 1989.
